Sita Haran – But it’s not Ravan, it’s “Sri Ram” and his Sena (Ref:Incident at Mangalore and Across India)

What an irony, molesting young women, beating them on roads, tearing their clothes apart and that too in the name and principles of “Sri Ram”. The same name which brought down the evils of an entire kingdom for protecting the honor of a woman, the name which for ages stood for values, courage, righteousness and a symbol of protector for women and mankind at large.

These heinous acts raise doubts, is this what Sri Ram stand for in our society? Is this a representation of what was prevalent during the reins of Sri Ram? Or it’s just a transition of Ram to a new age Ravan by a handful few who claims to know Ram better than most of us. My heart refuses to believe it because it goes well beyond the simple notion of humanity, one doesn’t need to read Ramayana or cite Ram for this simple truth of respect for human and especially women.

It would be apt to say that Ravan has taken a rebirth but is now wearing the shell of Sri Ram and misleading the society on the true principles of “Maryadapursuttam Ram”. And one wonders what “Sri Ram” would be feeling when he sees all of these from the top. Ravan would be saying to him “You killed one Ravan but see how many more I have created and that too in your name”.

This is Ravan at his very best and the need of the hour is to prevent this Ravanism from captivating our society. At this moment let’s also for a moment think about the people of carried this act, most of them very young. Do they really know what they have done? Are they really the brain behind this act? Putting them in prison for a day or two will not solve the problem. It’s time we understand the larger motives of few handful Ravanas of our society, it’s time we stop being mere spectators rather gather courage to oppose and stop similar acts. Because we never know what will be the next wave of this Ravanism and if unchecked where will it lead our society to…
